Sushi has always been one of my beau’s favorite cuisines, but since moving to Chicago, he has yet to fall in love with a local establishment that offers both a fabulous sake selection and the eclectic array of sashimi delicacies that he’s grown accustomed to in LA. So, in honor of his 30^th birthday, we ventured to Roka Akor, a highly acclaimed sushi restaurant in River North that just opened last week (and from start to finish, lived up to all of its hype). Though I tend to be pretty stubborn when it comes to trying meat and seafood, the brave bite of toro and blackened cod I tasted was truly life changing and served as a nice reminder that stepping out of my comfort zone can lead to fun new food discoveries.
